Commercial Painters Wollongong
Colourland Painting is a second-generation painting business based at 119 Church Street, Wollongong. For more than 35 years (combined) we’ve painted offices, shopfronts, strata blocks, workshops and industrial sites from Helensburgh down to Kiama. Commercial work is a different job from painting a house. The paint matters, but so does the program: keeping your doors open, getting through site inductions, staying safe at heights, and finishing on the date you were promised.
If you’d rather talk it through, call us on 0421 755 294. We’ll come out, look at the job and give you a fixed written quote.

Commercial painting services across Wollongong & the Illawarra
Most of the commercial work we do fits into one of these groups. Each has its own page if you want the detail.
- Office painting: open-plan floors, meeting rooms, reception and fit-out touch-ups. We usually work after hours so staff come back Monday to a finished floor.
- Retail and shopfront painting: facades, signage walls and tenancies, done in sections so the shop keeps trading. We’ve written up how we paint offices and shopfronts without you closing.
- Industrial painting: warehouses, factories, workshops, steel structures, rust treatment and protective coatings, plus line marking and safety colours.
- Strata and body corporate painting: unit block exteriors, stairwells, common hallways and car parks, scheduled around residents and committee sign-off.
- Hospitality, medical and education spaces: cafés, clinics, consulting rooms and childcare, where low-odour products and tight cleaning standards matter.
- Tenancy make-goods: walls patched, repainted and handed back so a lease can end cleanly or a new tenant can move straight in.
Case study: car wash repaint in the Illawarra
This is a recent commercial job of ours. The site is a self-serve and automatic car wash, and the owner asked us not to name the business, so we haven’t. It shows the kind of conditions commercial paint has to deal with on the coast.

The problem
Car wash bays get water, detergent and high-pressure spray every day, and sun and salt air on top. The red cladding had gone chalky and patchy. Low down on the walls, where the spray hits hardest, the coating had flaked back to bare spots. On a site that trades on looking clean and bright, tired walls tell customers the opposite.
The prep

As we always say, the prep is most of the job. We washed the walls down, sanded back everything loose, feathered the edges so they wouldn’t show through, and spot-primed the bare patches. If you skip this on a wet-area wall, the new coat lifts within a season, no matter how good the paint is.
The finish

We brought the bays back to the brand red. The entry structure and roller-door section went to a crisp black, and the posts and bollard covers got a fresh safety yellow so they stand out to drivers again. Sites like this can’t simply shut for a week, so we work bay by bay and fit in around the owner’s busy times.

What it shows: commercial painting is mostly about the surface and the conditions. Get the prep and the coating system right for the environment and the finish holds up. Get it wrong and you’re paying for it again in a year or two.
How we run a commercial job
- Site visit and written scope. We walk the site with you, note access, trading hours, hazards and surface condition, then give you a fixed written quote. We don’t quote off a phone call.
- Program built around your business. That might be after-hours work, weekends, or one area sectioned off at a time. You get a start date, a finish date and one person to call.
- Safety and compliance. We do site inductions, prepare SWMS for higher-risk work such as heights and elevated work platforms, barricade work zones and keep public walkways clear.
- Prep and protection. We clean, repair, sand and prime, and cover floors, fixtures and stock before any colour goes on.
- Coating system matched to the surface. We use quality Dulux systems as standard, with low-odour products for occupied offices and clinics, and protective coatings for steel and high-wear areas.
- Walk-through and handover. We inspect the work with you, fix any marks, and leave the site clean so you can trade the next morning.
Choosing the right coating for the space
We don’t use one commercial paint for everything, because every space wears differently:
- Offices and consulting rooms: low-odour, washable interior finishes, so the space can be used the next morning and marks wipe off scuffed corridors.
- Retail and hospitality: hard-wearing finishes that can be scrubbed, plus accurate brand colours on feature walls and facades.
- Stairwells, foyers and common areas: tougher sheens that handle bags, trolleys and constant hands on the walls.
- External cladding, steel and wet areas: primers and protective systems matched to the metal and how exposed it is, because the coast is unforgiving.
We’ll explain what we recommend and why in the written quote, so you’re not left guessing.
Why businesses choose Colourland
- Local and accountable. We’re based in Wollongong, so if something needs a look after the job, we’re down the road.
- Second-generation, 35+ years combined. We’ve seen what lasts on Illawarra buildings and what doesn’t.
- Dulux systems. From our experience the cheaper paints can chalk, flake or discolour within a year or two on the coast. We’d rather do it once.
- Fixed written quotes. You know what’s included before we start.
- Licensed and insured NSW painting contractor.
Commercial areas we cover
We cover the whole Illawarra and work across NSW for larger commercial jobs. Around here that includes the Wollongong CBD and North Wollongong offices, the industrial areas around Unanderra and Kembla Grange, Port Kembla, Albion Park Rail and the airport precinct, Dapto, Shellharbour and Kiama. For homes and smaller jobs, see our local pages for Unanderra, Dapto, Albion Park, Shellharbour and Kiama.
