The Best Time of Year to Paint Your Home in Wollongong

People often ask us when’s the best time to get their painting done. After 35+ years working around Wollongong and the Illawarra, here’s the honest answer: it depends whether we’re talking inside or outside.

Interiors – any time of year. Inside, season doesn’t really matter. We control the conditions, the rooms are protected, and modern paints cure fine year-round. So if the inside of your place needs doing, there’s no need to wait for a particular month.

Exteriors – this is where timing matters. Outside, we’re at the mercy of the weather, and on the coast that means keeping an eye on a few things. You want a dry stretch so the surface is properly dry before we coat it, and temperatures that aren’t extreme – paint doesn’t cure well when it’s too cold or baking hot. Around here, the milder parts of the year are usually ideal for exterior work. We also plan around the sea breeze and humidity, because rushing an exterior coat in the wrong conditions is how you end up with a finish that doesn’t last.

Don’t leave the outside too long. Whatever the season, the bigger mistake is waiting too many years between exterior repaints. We recommend doing exteriors every 7 to 10 years, because once the sun and salt break the coating down and the cladding drops below 100%, it never fully comes back, no matter how much prep we do. If your place is overdue, the best time to paint it is before the weather gets into it.
